We’ve played at some fantastic weddings over the last few months, with some memorable highlights I thought I would share with you incase you are looking for inspiration:-
- an amazing fireworks display in Lochside House, New Cumnock;
- a surprise ice cream van visit arranged by the groom in Finlaystone Country Estate;
- a packed dancefloor in The Crutherland Hotel, East Kilbride having a ‘Glastonbury’ moment as they all sang along with the band; and
- a fantastic first dance last weekend as the bride and groom danced to ‘Pencil Full Of Lead’ by Paulo Nutini in a swing dance style – a truly original take on the first dance!
The best part of performing at weddings is the reaction from the guests to the band. I think it’s vital that people feel able to approach the band to chat or ask for requests (or even to invite us to join in a conga! – as happened at a recent wedding at The Westerwood Hotel, Cumbernauld) I also enjoy speaking to the wedding guests after the wedding is over so I can get some informal feedback on what they enjoyed the most. I’m so grateful that many guests, newly married couples and their families take the time to come up and talk to us at the end of the evening – that really means a lot to me.
On that subject, we would like to say thank you to everyone who has emailed comments via the website. I have posted all of these comments, and you can read them in the column on the right.
Can’t wait for the next wedding – you never know what surprises could be in store!

We’ve had a busy few months, hence the lack of posts!
I’ve been delighted by the response we’ve been receiving for our new material we’ve been playing over the last couple of months. “You Got The Love” by Florence and the Machine has been our hit of the summer! Many a crowd sing-a-long has been had.
We pride ourselves on our live performances and choosing songs for our audiences is something we really believe we do well. Having said that you never know how a new song will be received until you play it live! Sometimes a song that works in rehearsal just doesn’t feel right on the night while on the other hand the most unexpected songs can cause the floor to fill.
When I put together the set lists for each performance I always start with the songs I would like to hear on a night out and go from there. My main objective during the evening is to get people of all ages on the dancefloor and singing along. Having that connection with the audience is so important, the guests should always feel like they are part of the event and that the band are having a great time entertaining them. We certainly do!
We are about to start rehearsal on four or five new songs which I can’t wait to perform live. As we cover various genres throughout the evening it’s great choosing new songs in differing styles. I always make notes of any requests we receive in order to add them to the set in future. I’ve been given some great ideas at past performances – though we had to draw the line at The Vengaboys’ “We Like To Party” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” – not quite sure we could pull those off!
Check out our songlist over the coming weeks for new additions…

We are delighted to welcome a new member to the band!
Edward O’Neill, our new keyboard player is brother to two of the band and uncle to Gemma who has recently left Hitched due to other commitments.
Edward has over 25 years experience in the business and is an extremely talented and versatile player. He has performed with Hitched on many occasions and we are very lucky to have snapped him up as a permanent member!
We would like to take this opportunity to wish Gemma all the best. Gemma was with the band for 2 years and the talent and enthusium she brought to the band was fantastic. We know she has a great future ahead of her!
We will be posting pics of the new band line-up in the next couple of weeks.

Hitched took part in the Wedding Fayre at The Bruce Hotel on Sunday 11th October. We had been contacted by a great many people leading up to the event and were delighted with the turnout and the bookings on the day.
Performing at Wedding Fayres is always an enjoyable experience for us. We pride ourselves on our live performance so it offers us an opportunity to do what we do best, and for you to get a chance to meet the band.
It does feel a little strange though to be wearing an evening dress at 1pm in the afternoon!

The band members and I really enjoyed taking part in our first SECC wedding show. We saw a few familiar faces and loads of new ones.
We were all really excited in the weeks leading up to it, and I’m glad to say that the response we received was wonderful and we were pleased to have so many visitors to our stand.
I don’t know what it was like for people attending the event, but I was taken aback by the sheer scale and size. It must have been bewildering to wander around in there – even with a map it must have felt like visiting a new city for the first time!
In fact, it felt like we were in our own little street. We really got on well with our ‘neighbours’ in the other stalls and were soon sharing chocolates and chatting away. You can find links to their websites here.
We would just like to say a big “thank you” to everyone who stopped by our stall on the day, and we hope to see you at our upcoming showcase gigs.

With the Show at the SECC coming up I thought it would be useful to mention a few helpful suggestions to make your wedding run that little bit smoother:-
- Please arrange for the lights to be dimmed before your evening guests arrive. This will help create an atmosphere for dancing.
- Although Hitched carefully moniter the volume throughout the evening, some older guests and young children may be very sensitive to sound. Try and encourage these guests to sit away from the band to avoid any discomfort./li>
- The tone of the reception is very often set by the Bride and Groom. If your guests see you dancing and enjoying yourself they will follow your lead.
- Ensure that you provide the band with all your information including special requests and the names of the bridal party as early as possible. For special requests we require a minimum of six weeks notice. Please note that due to demand we are unable to guarantee more than one special request per booking.
- Allow a reasonable time from your evening guests arrival to the first waltz. It is important that you are available to welcome and chat to your guests before the dancing begins.
Above all, remember to relax and enjoy your wedding day!
